Traditionally reserved for kings and dignitaries, this cotton dyed with natural indigo and adorned with geometric patterns bearing powerful symbols embodies a worldview rooted in memory, spirituality, and belonging. At Studio Matongé, we source and upcycle these vintage pieces to give them a new life. Each carefully selected fragment of Ndop bears the marks of time and dignity: wear, irregularities, and faded hues all testify to a lived history. Our Ndop cushions, throws, and wall textiles are handmade in Belgium in ultra-limited series. Sometimes combined with textured linen, wool, or double gauze cotton, they create a refined dialogue between raw materials and delicate finishes. To place on a sofa, a bed, or to hang as a textile artwork, each piece transforms the space and tells a story greater than itself.

The NAMTCHEMA N°1 throw transports you to the heart of Cameroon, to discover a sacred fabric: the Ndop.
Dyed with natural indigo, spun, woven, and sewn by hand according to the rites of the Bamiléké, people, this royal textile was once worn only by kings and initiates.

Composed of fine cotton strips sewn together, it is adorned with geometric patterns drawn freehand, protected during dyeing by an ancestral raffia stitching system.
Once removed, they reveal symbolic signs—between spirituality, lineage, and royalty—with a graphic power that is strikingly contemporary.

The NAMTCHEMA throw is a unique piece, rich in a deep indigo patina , raw textures , and marks of time that attest to its authenticity.
To place on a sofa, a bed, or to hang on the wall, it embodies a sensitive decoration, both bold and heritage-inspired.

Pair it with the FO cushion in vintage ndop or the MSINGI cushion cover in plain bogolan for a balanced and inspiring set.
Find all our Ndop fabric pieces in the NDOP Collection – The Royal Weaving of the Bamiléké

The FO cushion brings together two exceptional textiles: a royal Cameroonian Ndop, dyed with natural indigo, and a textured linen from northern France.

On the main side, the geometric patterns tell, according to Bamileke tradition, stories of royalty, spirituality, and prosperity.
