JP Mika is an internationally renowned contemporary Congolese painter, originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His colourful, joyful pictorial universe celebrates Congolese life and visual culture — a spirit at the heart of his BISENGO series.

The BISENGO x Xuly-Bët capsule

For its first collaboration, Studio Matongé brings together JP Mika’s pictorial universe and the fashion energy of Xuly-Bët, the house founded by Lamine Kouyaté. Inspired by the BISENGO series, the Bisengo oversized T-shirt is made in Xuly-Bët’s Parisian workshops, in limited edition: each piece is numbered and delivered with a certificate of authenticity signed by JP Mika.

More than a garment, a work of art to wear: expressive, rare and singular — to collect, to give or to pass on.

The JP Mika Foundation

Studio Matongé is extremely proud to support the JP Mika Foundation: 10% of the profits from the sale of the Bisengo capsule T-shirts are donated to it.

Founded in 2021 by the artist, the Foundation aims to help orphans and widows in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It funds various social initiatives designed to foster autonomy: education through the funding of school and training fees for the youngest, support for the creation of micro-businesses, and micro-credit schemes enabling widows and single women to provide for their families in a lasting way.

Flashback: as early as the Beauté Congo exhibition at the Fondation Cartier, Lamine Kouyaté was creating collector T-shirts inhabited by the characters of JP Mika’s paintings. An artistic bond that lives on today in the BISENGO capsule.
