At the Centre Pompidou, Paris Noir traces more than a century of creation and struggle, through the works and commitments of Black artists who have helped shape the intellectual, political, and artistic scene of France.

From the Paris of Negritude to the contemporary movements of the African and Caribbean diaspora, the exhibition is a dense, moving, and essential journey.

We had the opportunity to visit this exhibition with Ana Bloom, visual artist and photographer, whose works are also imbued with the notions of memory, identity, and transmission.

A particularly powerful moment of this visit: Ana’s encounter with the panel paying tribute to Lamine Kouyaté, founder of the Xuly Bët fashion house, whom she has known for over 30 years. A friend, a free spirit who has left his mark on Parisian and international fashion with his flamboyant and subversive creations.
