On DEÑC-MAJI, the design is concentrated on the lid. A network of coloured lines crosses a lighter disc, forming a branching pattern. The sides and interior, covered in coordinating plain leather, give this movement room to unfold.

The box is handcrafted in Senegal. Its wooden structure gives it shape and support; the leather follows its contours and softens its appearance. Its low profile fits easily on a bedside table, console or desk to hold jewellery, keys and small objects.

The tie-dye pattern is created directly on the leather of the lid using a resist-dyeing technique adapted to the material. The leather is softened, folded or tied to protect certain areas, then colour is applied without a prolonged hot bath. After drying in the shade, a finish helps stabilise the shades. It is neither a print nor an applied decoration. Variations in line and colour bear witness to the handwork. Each colourway is shown in photographs of the actual piece: cherry red or fir green on natural leather.

Care

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Occasionally apply a neutral, colourless product suitable for leather, after testing on an inconspicuous area.
  • Allow it to absorb, then buff gently.
  • Avoid water, soaking, abrasive products, alcohol, solvents, heat and prolonged sun exposure.
  • The leather may develop a natural patina over time.

DEÑC-MAJI's low profile draws attention to the lid. The branching pattern may suggest a botanical drawing or a network of lines in motion, while the plain leather brings calm to the composition. The box can stand alone or be paired with wooden objects, leather and colourful textiles in the home.

Preparing your order

  • Orders are prepared within 1–2 working days, except during special periods. We dispatch from Belgium, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
  • We use environmentally responsible packaging: cardboard and kraft paper, keeping plastic to a minimum.

Delivery

  • Delivery to Belgium and other EU countries usually takes 2–5 working days after dispatch, except during special periods.
  • Free delivery on orders of €50 or more to Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
  • Free delivery on orders of €200 or more to our other EU destinations.
  • Below these thresholds, charges depend on the destination and the weight and size of the parcel. The amount is shown before you confirm your order.
  • For deliveries within the EU, prices include VAT and there are no customs charges to pay.

Returns

  • You have 14 days after receiving your order to request a return using the contact form or your customer account, followed by a further 14 days to send the items back.
  • Returns from Belgium are free. For returns from our other delivery destinations, a flat fee of €8 is deducted from your refund.
  • If an item is faulty, damaged or not as described, Studio Matongé covers the full return cost, regardless of your country.
  • We always provide a return label, so you do not have to pay any return charges upfront.
